WORK PERIOD
I participated in a working period in Florence with Artist in Residence "Chiasso Perduto". Here I made translucent drawings inspired by some works of art from the Renaissance.
CONTENT
Through the study of some painters from the Renaissance and Mannerism, such as Mantegna, Allori, Botticelli and Pontormo, Gery notices how the gaze of the characters is often turned elsewhere and above all there is no communication between them and somehow this becomes a reflection of our times, so connected in real time by technology and for this very reason so distant.
Gery decides to rewrite the actions by positioning the new characters so that they can finally meet each other's gaze or signal a point where a thought materializes, which becomes a clue towards the narrative of an enigma, a suggestion of what is happening in the scene. Gery's characters are translucent, light, almost ethereal drawings proposed as sculptures that inhabit the space temporarily and invite us to establish a new connection with the proposed narrative, with the idea of true communication, to follow the thread of a story we write.
